Things happen in life that can lead to us traveling on a whim. It can be a family emergency, it can be a work trip, but sometimes, we can end up traveling on a whim just for fun. I’ve ended up in several places on a whim and it was very adventurous and fun. There are some ways that you can have your whimsical vacation while also not breaking the bank.
On the few times that I’ve travelled whimsically, I had a life-changing event that was taking place. I either quit my job or was looking toward the next step of my life. On these occasions, I was fortunate enough to have enough money saved or have a remote job that would fund my trips. There’s many reasons why taking a whimsical trip can be good for you.
- Sometimes you just need to escape the rat race. People who are in the rat race do the same thing, every day, all day, for years. It’s a race that is based on fear and unnecessary competition. Sometimes, what you need is a simple and quick escape from the monotony of the rat race. Whether it’s a quick trip out of town to a nearby location or it’s a place that’s far away, taking a quick break can be good for ones mental health.
- I’ve taken whimsical trips to see my friends or loved ones that I haven’t seen in a while on a whim. Once, when I was younger, I was able to just hop in the car with my cousins and other extended family and take a trip to Mississippi. These kinds of trips are always fun and they make for great stories as well.
- A life-changing event takes place. I’ve seen many stories of people traveling because of life-changing events like getting broken up with or losing their jobs. Life-changing events can lead to whimsical travel because there wasn’t really a contingency plan in place or there was a strong need for people to discover themselves after the trauma of the event. Traveling is a great place for healing or discovering yourself, and whimsical travel definitely leads to that because of the challenges that come along with it.
- For a special event. Sometimes, people travel because of something special that they can’t get in their area like a concert or something of that nature.
- There was a good deal taking place. I’ve seen people book flight whimsically because they found a good deal online. This is a good way to save money. I will say be cautious about this though because sometimes something is a good deal because it’s hurricane season in a particular area or there is some kind of political strife or conflict happening in the area. In any case, proceed carefully.
- For fun. Some people travel whimsically for fun. It doesn’t have to have a catalyst for why it’s happening. Maybe you’ve known for a while that you want to go to that destination or to that place you saw in that one movie. So you can just book a flight and go. That’s the great thing about whimsical travel. There’s really no rhyme or reason to it.
There’s much to gain for traveling on a whim. It is fun, it’s adventurous, it can give you temporary access to freedom. Taking time to be whimsical and playful is always good for you.
