Finding Wi-Fi Abroad

Having access to Wi-Fi when traveling is very important. So much of the world is digital and operates through our phones. Yet and still, some places are harder to reach Wi-Fi than others, and it’s important to have different back up plans when traveling so that you can connect to the larger world.

Glocal Me Portable Wi-Fi

One of the things that I keep with me and that has been a great investment when traveling has been my GlocalMe 4G portable Wi-Fi. Having this portable box on me has helped me in various countries and although it doesn’t work on every country, the only one where it hasn’t worked for me was in Senegal. Everywhere else, if I was in a tight spot or needed some Wi-Fi in an emergency, this helped me out tremendously.

You simply go to the website and click on the data marketplace section. Then you type in what country you’re in or planning to visit. Pick the plan that works best for you and pay for Wi-Fi for a duration of time. The plans range in time length and GB. Some plans are as low as $4 and as high as $100. It really just depends on what you need.

Unlocked Dual-Sim Card Cell Phone

Get an unlocked double-sim card holding cell phone. An unlocked cell phone means you don’t have to have a plan with only a certain carrier or in a certain country, they work internationally. These phones are great because you can keep your home country sim card and then when you get to your place of travel, you can get a sim card from there.

Sim cards in other destinations are quite affordable. You’ll have a local phone number to contact people in the country that you’re visiting, and you can use apps that may not be available in your home country. Beyond that, you now have portable Wi-Fi on you, and that can assist you in your travels.

When I was in Senegal, this was the method that I used to have Wi-Fi. I’d just got it just in the nick of time because the Wi-Fi went out in the place that I was staying at, and I had to work remotely that night. Because I had my sim card, I was able to make a portable hotspot until the Wi-Fi cut back on.

Local Cafes

Locate your local and 24-hour cafes as well. Be aware of the places around you that have Wi-Fi just in case you’re able to move fluidly to a backup location for whatever reason if necessary.

Luckily, the world is more interconnected, which makes our lives easier. Having the tools to connect while abroad can make or break a trip and makes all the difference.
